PRIMROSE HILL
Outfitted for the client’s taste and their way of living, this Victorian maisonette was modernised using a mix of scandi style with fun elements. Located in the prestigious neighbourhood of Primrose Hill in London, the property had its period features kept and contrasted with contemporary bespoke minimalist interiors. The layout of all rooms has been optimised and new lighting has been designed for an elevated living experience.
Upon entering, the first room has been redesigned to receive a Welcome area separate from the Utility, creating an inviting ambience by the use of bespoke plywood joinery, warm and diffuse lighting and the right amount of storage. By changing the position of the access to the Kitchen in the Lounge, a large wood panel has been created to display the TV while keeping the existing fireplace position – which has received a contemporary bespoke dark mantel in Black Zimbabwe Stone. The alcoves around it have been used to create interest and adjust the proportion of the room by the use of modern symmetry and the juxtaposition of plywood, Valchromat, metal shelves and light.
The stairs have been modernised by the addition of the couple’s collection of art, enhanced by purpose lights and geometric patterned runners made of sustainable materials for contrast and interest.
On the second floor, the need for a multipurpose room to accommodate exercise activities and a Guest double bed was achieved by exclusive bespoke designed cupboards to conceal a fully retractable Murphy bed.
Upstairs in the loft, the working and entertaining area has been enhanced with seamless connection with the outdoor terrace by the placement of minimal framing sliding doors made to measure. To create a cohesive dialogue with the outdoors, the external Kitchen pairs the interiors in its colour palette of dark natural tones to match the Valchromat bar cabinet.
The appreciation of the clients for a playful design has been contemplated by the use of touches of strong colours in the joinery and in the furniture throughout the entire project.
